Basic Beginnings and the Albany County Campus of Laramie County Community College have teamed up to provide high quality professional development for new staff members.
Being effective as a teacher for young children requires a solid understanding of child development principles...and a knowledge of silly songs, fingerplays and dances! Instructor Anita Sullivan leads a discussion of the skills and traits needed by every early childhood teacher and caregiver. Kyla Otte teaches a course in infant and child CPR.  We are putting our new on-site adult education classroom to good use.  Thank you, Albany County Campus!

The University of Wyoming Early Childhood Division and the Laramie Early Childhood Association also worked together to bring in Rusty Keeler from "Planet Earth Playscapes" to introduce Laramie child care providers to natural playscapes designed for young children!

Here we are exploring nature through loose materials we found on our walk around Prexy's Pasture.  We learned how to create fairy houses from special treasures that we found outside.

We built benches and tables for both children and teachers.

...and here we are putting boulders in place to create a "boulder scramble" for preschool age children to climb on.  We have our own miniature Vedauwoo!
